In his opinion the advantages that would be brought about with the merger could be achieved only thanks to their cooperation. The merger would be disadvantageous to one of the parties. "It will be no miracle. Shareholders in both companies will not benefit from this," said Stefanowicz. According to his preliminary analysis, the new entity would have worse balance sheet results than Grupa Lotos has at present.
The merger would not be directly negative to company's clients, but rather one of the local governments, in Płock or in Gdańsk, as one of the them would lose a substantial share of revenues. He added that despite the negative decision of the Economy and Regional Development Ministries, Lotos would still lobby in favor of constructing fuel depots. It would correspond to company's processing capacity that currently stands at 6 million tonnes, but will be boosted to 10.5 million within a few years.
