Poland to get EUR 13.6-14.2bn in structural aid in 2004-2006. Depending on the quality of the investment projects to be prepared by the Polish side, Poland will receive EUR 13.564-14.161bn in 2004-2006 in structural aid funds, according to a confidential report of the European Commission quoted by the daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita. This means that Poland will receive more than half (54%) of the total EU aid funds earmarked for 10 candidate countries over the first three years after its accession to the Union. The proposals will be officially presented in May or June, but as the EU officials said, the numbers for Poland will not be changed. The structural aid will be divided into four parts:
* EUR 9.3bn to be spent on regional development; * EUR 3.9-4.5bn to be earmarked for development of infrastructure essential for all of Europe; * EUR 207mn to be earmarked for the Interreg programme of interregional co-operation; * EUR 132mn to be received from the Equal fund, which is to promote equal chances on the labour market The value of these funds will rise each year and on average Poland will receive some EUR 4.521-4.721bn. Currently, only Spain is entitled to larger financial assistance - some EUR 8bn. To compare Italy and Germany receive EUR 4.2bn each. kp,bb
