Deputies want the SSC privatisation deal to be annulled
A group of deputies urged the Treasury Minister Andrzej Chronowski to annul the privatisation deal of Silesian Sugar Corporation (SSC) to the French company Saint Louis Sucre. The deputies claimed the price of PLN 230mn paid for 16 sugar plants in the region of Silesia was ridiculously low and the deal opened the way for the investor to break its conditions. The deputies want the government to create a national sugar holding called Polski Cukier (Polish Sugar), which would include 47 state-owned sugar mills. The privatisation deal was signed Nov 15 after nine months of negotiations. The deal must still be accepted by the Interior Ministry.
