The government wants the sale of Elektrownia Rybnik to be concluded
Deputy Treasury Minister Jan Buczkowski said the ministry would start negotiating with another possible investor if the current talks on the sale of a strategic stake in the power company Elektrownia Rybnik are not concluded by the end of October. The ministry has been negotiating the sale of 35% in ER with the consortium of NRG Enerating International BV, General Electric Capital Corporation and Marubeni Corporation. The price has been agreed on (possibly USD 140mn), as well as the conditions for injecting additional capital to the company, but the consortium wants first to reach agreements with ER's coal suppliers and electricity purchasers. The government's plan calls for privatisation of power producers and distributors by the end of 2002.
