Amica breaks talks with potential investors

The white-goods producer Amica Wronki has broken talks with potential foreign investors willing to become the Polish company's strategic partner, the company said on Friday. Amica could not reach an agreement on the company's future strategy, including maintaining the identity and local brandname of the firm. The negotiations with undisclosed foreign companies lasted for more than a year. It has been speculated that the potential bidders included the U.S.-based General Electric and Sweden's Electrolux. Amica Wronki is majority owned by a private investor Jacek Rutkowski. For the first three quarters of the year, the company reported a net profit of PLN 40.7mn (USD 9.27mn), or some 36% higher than in the same period of 1999. Sales rose to nearly PLN 596mn (USD 136mn) in the period against PLN 560mn (USD 127.8mn).
