Gazprom and PGNiG to decide on EuRoPol Gaz's equity increase
The Russian gas concern Gazprom and Poland's oil and gas monopolist PGNiG are scheduled to decide about a USD 200mn capital increase of EuRoPol Gaz, the operator of the Yamal pipeline on June 21. Economy Minister Jacek Piechota said, however, the Russian-Polish working group had not yet reached a compromise in terms of the capital increase, which was assumed to go along with agreement on other issues concerning the Russian natural gas supplies to Poland. EuRoPol Gas capital would be raised in order to complete an investment into the first thread of the Yamal pipeline. EuRoPol Gaz's shareholders include PGNiG and Gazprom, with a 48% stake each, and Gas Trading with 4%, which is controlled by the private businessman Aleksander Gudzowaty, whose company Bartimpex is an intermediary in gas trade. Earlier, Piechota had said that before liabilities of EuRoPol Gas were converted into equity, all controversial issues accompanying the Russian gas supplies to Poland must be resolved. Poland has contracted a total of 12.5bn cubic metres of gas annually from Russia for the next 20 years, while the construction of the second thread of the Yamal pipe, which would allow increased gas shipments, has not been started yet. Poland is currently renegotiating the Russian gas contract, as it would not be able to receive the whole amount of contracted gas. ISB
