"We are the most profitable insurance company in Central Europe," said Rafał Antczak, PZU's chief economist. In his opinion all companies within the group apart from its subsidiaries in Lithuania and Ukraine were profitable, but even these should breakeven soon.

The data comes from PZU's consolidated financial statement after the previous General Shareholders Meeting was interrupted by the former CEO Jaromir Netzel who wanted to resolve the issue of accusations against him by the Newsweek magazine. According to Marcin Dymek of Ernst&Young, which is the auditor of the company, a second audit did not confirm the irregularities claimed by Newsweek. PZU may soon consider lodging a lawsuit against the weekly. (Parkiet, pp. 13; Rzeczpospolita, p. B7; Puls Biznesu, pp. 1, 9) M.M.
