Last week the presidents of the two companies, Aleksander Myszka (Polsat) and Piotr Walter (TVN), signed a preliminary deal on creating Polski Operator Telewizyjny (POT), a new digital television broadcaster.

Now that the deal has been signed, it is possible to start the procedure for getting approval from the president at the Office of Fair Trading.

At the first general meeting of the partners, the company's management will be appointed, but Wiesaw Walendziak has already been named as president, and Tomasz Berezowski and Adam Brodziak as managing directors. At the same time, membership of the board of directors will be established, including Andrzej Zar´bski as chairperson, and Dominik Libicki and Olgierd Dobrzyfski as members of the board.

Originally, POT was to comprise the three major competing television stations: Polsat, TVN, and the public TVP. Impatient to wait any longer for the latter's final decision, Polsat and TVN started acting independently. However, they announced that they are still ready to continue negotiations with TVP as to its partnership in POT.

According to the government's assumptions, Poland should abandon analogue broadcasting, which reaches eight million households, by the end of 2014. In order to have access to digital television, each home will need a special decoder.
