Although the details of its new strategy are yet to be unveiled, analysts welcomed the move, noting PKO BP and Inteligo were targeting different customer groups. Inteligo, in particular, should benefit from distancing itself from PKO BP and projecting a more focused and consistent image of a nimble internet bank for young people. Such was the image of Inteligo when it launched as Poland's second internet bank several years ago. However, since its takeover by PKO BP, it has steadily lost ground to its rival, mBank, as the new owner left it relatively underinvested. As a result, mBank's customer base of 1.6 million people is now three times that of Inteligo's. However, Inteligo was instrumental in helping PKO BP build its own internet banking operations under PKO Inteligo, which is currently the market leader with two million customers. After the separation, PKO BP's internet-banking business will be renamed iPKO BP and Inteligo will continue to cross-sell PKO's products. (Puls Biznesu, p. 8)
