Government will not lower imports tariffs
The government discussed possible ways to curb inflation at its meeting yesterday, but lowering import tariffs will not be one of them, said Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Janusz Steinhoff. He commented that any decisions would be taken at the next meeting. Steinhoff said the government might decide to intervene on the food market, further demonopolise the economy, including fuel and telecommunication sectors, and introduce restructuring programmes, but did not give any more details. According to Steinhoff it would be unrealistic to achieve the 2000 inflation goal envisaged by the Monetary Policy Council (RPP) at 5.4%-6.8%.
