BCC criticised the budget bill
The 2001 budget draft is based on unrealistic macroeconomic indices, particularly those relating to economic growth, according to the Business Center Club (BCC). BCC said GDP growth should have been set at 4% rather than the 5.1% projected by the government. To reach the goal of 5.1%, the government should lower taxes, interest rates, labour costs, as well as fight bureaucracy, but there is nothing about it in the draft, BCC claimed. The level of domestic, as well as external, demand is also overestimated. "Next year's budget is standing on rather shaky legs, as it is based on laws that have not been passed by the parliament yet," BCC's Tadeusz Uchman said. At today's meeting, the Monetary Policy Council (RPP) is going to present its opinion on the bill. It is expected that that the 10-member council will warn against risks to the planned revenue levels, but to praise the overall economic deficit figure (1.6%).
