Public debt up 5.8% in H1
Poland's public finances debt went up 5.8% in H1, to reach PLN 289.8bn (USD 63.7bn). This included an increase of the government debt by 5.8% to PLN 283.4bn (USD 62.3bn), and of the local governments' debt by 4.0% to PLN 6.4bn (USD 1.4bn). In y/y terms the total increase was 10.4%, but that of the local governments increased by 33.8% y/y. The total public debt growth for 1999 amounted to 3.7%. In July, the Treasury debt (part of the government debt) decreased 1.1%, bringing down this ytd growth to 4.5%. Domestic debt rose 1.0% in July, and 7.8% on the year, to PLN 145.2bn (USD 31.9bn). July's foreign debt fell by 3.4%, and was up on the year by 1.2%, amounting to PLN 1.5bn (USD 0.3bn) after the seven months of this year.
