Although the takeover may cost as much as $600 million, Gazprom is by no means discouraged. "We are in the course of negotiations," an anonymous Russian source told daily Dziennik. If Gazprom strikes a deal with BP, it will be the second Russian company to enter the Polish petrol market. Last year Lukoil bought 83 JET petrol stations from American Conoco-Philips.
