PKN Orlen fined PLN 40mn
The petrochemical giant Polski Koncern Naftowy Orlen (PKN) is to pay a fine of PLN 40mn (USD 9.3mn) for using monopolistic practices, the Anti-Monopoly Office (UOKiK) ruled. It is the highest fine ever imposed by UOKiK in its history. PKN has used its monopolistic position to increase its sales of glycol, a component of radiator liquid, in production of which the company has a 90% market share. The company, however, wants to appeal saying it had used the world prices. In Feb, PKN was also fined PLN 5mn for using the world prices instead of its own costs to determine the price for its petrol. The company has appealed from that decision as well.
