The most serious reductions will affect the glass sector with Glass Mill KHS planning to sack 1,200 of its staff, while its competitor Irena announced it will lay off 350. "So far we were restructuring employment abroad. We do not exclude that if the economic situation persists, lay offs might also be necessary in our Polish plants. If the slowdown remains, reductions might be necessary in the spring," said Radosław Koelner, president of Koelner.
Other companies announcing employment reductions include Boryszew-Impexmetal, Paged Meble, Telefonika-Kable, Whirlpool, Inter Groclin Auto, Amica and MAN, but the list is growing daily.
