Steinhoff: telecommunications and power sectors need demonopolisation
Deputy Prime Minister and economy minister Janusz Steinhoff said the government would create a task team to deal with the problem of deregulation and demonopolisation of Poland's economy. Steinhoff said that monopolies should be liquidated despite protests he is expecting to take place. The industries that need demonopolisation most are telecommunications and power sectors. He said he was against the possible merger of the petrochemical giant PKN Orlen with its largest competitor, the oil refinery Rafineria Gdanska. Steinhoff believes that the existence of monopolies and over-regulation of the market are the principal reasons for the most important problem of the Polish economy: growing inflation.
