However, this wasn't the first time Mikosz has faced public criticism. At the very beginning of his term suggestions arose of a conflict of interest in Jelfa's privatization process. The pharmaceutical concern was sold to the Lithuanian Sanitas, a company for which Mikosz worked as a legal adviser before taking office.
Although Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz announced that he already knows who is going to replace Mikosz, he decided to temporarily take over the Treasury leadership. Sources close to the government suggest the strongest ministerial candidate is Wojciech Jasiński, a PiS politician who chairs the Parliamentary Public Finance Committee. "Prime Minister Marcinkiewicz hasn't asked me to take office yet. These are just rumors," Jasiński said.
Mirosław Kochalski, interim mayor of Warsaw, is another possible candidate. Both men are close to the Kaczyński brothers rather than independent experts, as was the case with Mikosz. There are speculations that the Treasury Minister's resignation could trigger a deeper reshuffle in the minority government. Ministers with question marks over their heads include Teresa Lubińska, who is responsible for Finance, and Krzysztof Michałkiewicz, currently at the helm of the Labor and Social Policy Ministry.
Jan Rokita of Civic Platform predicted that Mikosz's resignation is only the beginning of the end for Marcinkiewicz's government.

Treasury Minister Andrzej Mikosz quit last Tuesday following the publication by Rzeczpospolita of an article describing his wife's dealings with Witold W, an investor accused of manipulating the stock price of publicly listed Kopex. The daily wrote that Krystyna Mikosz granted a $370,000 (zł.1.7 million) loan to Witold W's mother.
