The German phone carrier, which owns 49 percent of PTC and has been trying for years to take it over fully, said it may not insist on an option to buy the stake at book value.

"We are very much interested in the financial and economic wellbeing of Elektrim and we are prepared to contribute our share to this," said Telekom's finance chief, Karl-Gerhard Eick. "Deutsche Telekom is interested in purchasing Elektrim's 48 percent of PTC at terms which are satisfactory for both Deutsche Telekom and Elektrim," adding: "We are prepared to pay a fair price for the shares in PTC, irrespective of how the issue of the validity of the call option will eventually be resolved."

Deutsche Telekom bid as much as zł.5.39 billion last year for the 51 percent Elektrim and Vivendi own, but talks broke down when Elektrim's bondholders could not agree how to split up the proceeds. (Reuters)
