The budget bill sent to committees
After a hard debate on next year's budget draft, almost all the Sejm's caucuses agreed that the bill should be sent to committees. Only the ruling AWS supported the bill as presented by Finance Minister Jaroslaw Bauc, believing it was tough but nevertheless realistic. The bill was criticised by all opposition parties, first of all for proposing insufficient funds for health care, social security, and battling unemployment, while spending too much on central administration. Leszek Miller, the leader of the opposition post-communist Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) said proposed revenues were overestimated, while spending was underestimated, adding that the only positive thing in this budget was that it was the last one prepared by the current cabinet of PM Jerzy Buzek.
