"The Nobel Committee noticed that we fought beautifully, that we made great changes," said Lech Wałęsa. The celebration was attended by Tibet's spiritual and political leader the Dalai Lama, former president of RSA Frederik Willem de Klerk, Iran's lawyer Shirin Ebadi and Argentina's Adolfo Esquivel. These other Nobel prize winners stressed the role of Solidarity, its influence on changes in numerous countries and appealed for a global dialogue.

They also discussed the situation in Tibet and the current economic crisis. "I believe that the spirit of Solidarity should be accepted by society, we have to act as one society with common goals," said the Dalai Lama.

The main ceremonies took place on Saturday and attracted foreign and Polish politicians, such as French president Nicolas Sarkozy, EC chairman Jose Manuel Barroso, PM Donald Tusk and Foreign Affairs Minister Radosław Sikorski.
