New education minister to continue reformsPM Jerzy Buzek appointed an AWS senator Edmund Wittbrodt as the new Education Minister after accepting the resignation of Miroslaw Handke yesterday. Handke stepped down after admitting he had underestimated the amount of funds necessary for the reform of Poland's schooling system by around PLN 800mn (USD 186mn), mainly for pay rises for teachers. Motion of no-confidence vote for Handke was placed by the opposition Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) last Thursday. Wittbrodt said he would continue the reforms initiated by Handke.
