Money supply up 1.6% over Mar 1-10

In the first ten days of March, the money supply (broad money) rose PLN 4.72bn (USD 1.15bn), or 1.6%, to a total of PLN 300.1bn (USD 73.19bn), after a 0.9% rise in all of February, according to preliminary data released by NBP yesterday. From the beginning of the year, money supply rose by 1.9%. Net foreign assets rose 2.5%, or PLN 818.6mn (USD 199.6mn), to PLN 33.67bn (USD 8.19bn) in the ten-day period, and 5.7% on the year. The data confirmed that credit action was curbed by high interest rates, while deposits grew faster. Credit to individuals fell by 0.6% in the Mar 1-10 period and dropped 0.7% on the year, while deposits rose by 1% and were higher by 6.5% from the beginning of the year. bb, kp
