Huta Katowice and Danieli create a joint-ventureHuta Katowice, Poland's largest steel producer, and Italy's Danieli, one of the world's largest makers of machines for the steel industry, signed an agreement to build a USD 600mn flat-rolled products unit. Danieli's contribution to the project will amount to 15% of its value, while the remaining funds are to be provided by a bank consortium led by Greenwich NatWest. The agreement follows a similar deal signed a couple of weeks ago with the UK-Dutch steel giant Corus Group, under which it would take over Huta Katowice's long-products division. The agreements are believed to be a step towards the long-delayed privatisation of the ailing steel mill. Terms of the agreement are still to be approved by the Treasury Minister.
