Hungary's MOL to offer shares in Slovnaft to PKN
Hungary's oil company MOL said that if it is allowed to purchase a 17.6% stake in Poland's largest oil concern PKN Orlen, the Polish company would be offered a stake in the Slovakian refinery Slovnaft, now controlled by the Hungarian company. MOL now holds 36% in Slovnaft, but has an option to increase the stake to over 50% over the next 18 months. The exchange of shares might lead to creation of a large regional entity that could successfully compete with large global oil concerns. The other bidder for PKN's shares, the Austrian concern OMV is also planning to create a regional oil concern with PKN. kp,bb
