Bauc: Poland will be ready for EU by the end of 2002If the date of the European Union's enlargement is set at 2004 or 2005, it would be a great disappointment for Poland, said Poland's Finance Minster Jeroslaw Bauc in an interview for the German weekly Wirtschaftswoche. Bauc said that by the end of 2002, the country will be ready for joining the EU, so accession should logically follow at the beginning of 2003, together with the Czech Republic and Hungary. He said that Poland expects the date to be set clearly at the Nice summit this December. "We are in the middle of a very difficult adaptation process and it is not all the same when we reach the goal," he said. Bauc also said that fears of the EU societies that after its access Poland would flood the Western labour markets are ungrounded. There are many Poles who return to their country now, and when the economic situation improves, the movement in this direction should only increase, he said.
